Ottawa Ride for Research


From 2009 to 2019, hundreds of cyclists participated annually in The Ride, raising $14 million for research at The Ottawa Hospital over the course of the decade. It was a vital fundraiser for research at The Ottawa Hospital . In 2018 Overdrive was asked to redesign the identity for The Ride.

There were many complexities involved: the need to merge the hospital logo with “the RIDE” as well as the tag line and Mattamy Homes (the key sponsor), not to mention the inclusion of a bilingual version – all within a very tight budget. Avid cyclist and Overdrive principal James Wilson was up to the task.

His challenge? Hierarchy. Getting the right read, in the right order yet somehow mitigating visual complexity, as well as finding a place for the URL and giving it the hierarchy prominence it needed as a call to action.
